Overview

ShopMobility UK is a nationwide network of centres which hire out mobility equipment to the public. This equipment is mainly manual wheelchairs, powerchairs and mobility scooters so people with restricted mobility can enjoy independence outdoors. These hire services are low cost or sometimes free to all ages of people looking to access shops and leisure facilities. 

Anyone of any age can use local ShopMobility services. ShopMobility is not only for elderly individuals or people with chronic disabilities, it provides support for those restricted by temporarily illness or injury. Maybe you have broken your leg or have strength problems after an operation? Do you have a child with disabilities who needs pushing in a wheelchair? Or simply, you may find walking longer distances difficult. Whatever your need, each centre is ready to help you access your local shops and facilities with appropriate mobility equipment.

Eastleigh ShopMobility

Eastleigh ShopMobility

Eastleigh ShopMobility loans powered or manual wheelchairs and scooters to enable people to do their shopping independently or to use other facilities within the town centre. Manual wheelchairs are available for extended hire. 

You do not have to be registered disabled but you must register with ShopMobility before you can use this scheme. It is not always necessary to book ahead but it is advisable to be sure of availability. Regular users are advised to become members to benefit from reduced hire costs. 

Non-member and member fees for equipment hire apply.

Unity offers short-term hires for those wanting to access shops and other locations in Andover Town Centre, as well as a longer-term hire service, through its ShopMobility service. Equipment includes electric scooters, portable scooters, 4 x scooters, Electric wheelchairs, manual wheelchairs and walkers. Bookings must be made in advance by 1.30pm on the previous day.

The longer-term hire service is available across the whole of the Test Valley area. They can arrange delivery of equipment to your home if you cannot get to them (for a small fee). 

Anyone hiring equipment longer than a day is encouraged to become a member to cover insurance and any damages. This allows you to use any of the 11 Wessex ShopMobility centres, with a discount on mobility equipment and use of a walker for free.

There is a membership charge of £10 per year. Plus, hire charges.

Basingstoke ShopMobility

Basingstoke ShopMobility offer a wide range of equipment for hire including electric scooters, electric and manual wheelchairs and walkers. It is not essential to book equipment in advance but it is advisable as the service can be busy.

You do not have to register to use the equipment but doing so will entitle you to use their facilities as well as all those in the Wessex Group. If you would rather not register, you can use the Casual User option.

As well as hiring out equipment for access around the town, Basingstoke ShopMobility offer long-term hire for holidays, days out or use at home. This includes lightweight wheelchairs and scooters ideally suited for lifting and packing in vehicles. 

There is an annual fee for Registration, or a daily fee for the Casual User option. Plus, fees for equipment hire.

Portsmouth Shopmobility

Portsmouth ShopMobility is operated through Portsmouth City Council. It provides scooters, powerchairs, wheelchairs, and small portable scooters to people with limited mobility to allow them to visit shops, leisure facilities and social events. A ‘meet and greet’ service is available delivering equipment to the home or to hotels.

Services are available both to residents and visitors. First-time visitors need to register with the scheme. The customer will also receive training in the use of the equipment.

There are car parking facilities for customers so they are able to park and transfer directly to their chosen equipment.

There is a £10 annual membership. This also gives access to other ShopMobility schemes under the Wessex Group within Hampshire. Hire costs also apply.

Southampton Shopmobility

Southampton Shopmobility

Southampton ShopMobility offer a walk-in service, but you may also pre-book.

The centre is ideally situated next to the main pedestrian shopping precinct and adjacent to West Quay Shopping Centre. They have a non-barrier car park, which is accessed from Castle Way.

Equipment includes a range of different mobility scooters (3 and 4 wheel), powerchairs and manual wheelchairs to suit individual needs. For use in the city centre area. They can also provide a delivery service for manual wheelchairs to nearby hotels. This delivery service does incur an extra charge and requires advance booking.

Last scooter hire: 2.00pm

There is a voluntary membership scheme, which entitles members to a discounted hire rate. The cost of membership is £10 for a year. Daily hire prices apply for members and non-members. All transactions are cash only.

ShopMobility Fareham can provide you with a wide selection of mobility equipment to help you access the places you need to go. You can hire equipment via home delivery to support independent living, or visit the town centre service to access local facilities. Longer-term hire of equipment is also an option if you are going on holiday or need support at home.

Membership costs are £10.00 per year and includes use of the majority of the ShopMobility schemes in the Wessex Group. It is not obligatory to become a member, but members are offered cheaper rates of daily hire.

Alton ShopMobility

ACA have a fleet of 3 motorised scooters and 4 manual wheelchairs. Booking is preferrable. You can telephone to book a scooter for a specific day and time or for a longer period. You can also just turn up and hire a scooter if one is available by phone. Hourly/daily/weekly hire fees apply.
