County advice overview

Ferries in Devon provide connections across the county and with destinations in Europe. They operate as either a foot-passenger service or a combined foot-passenger and vehicle service.

Key tips

  • It is advisable to book tickets and arrange any required travel assistance in advance.
  • At the time of booking, you may find it useful to enquire about disabled parking at the port and wheelchair access on board the ferry.
  • Check your route at the docks is accessible if you have reduced mobility or are travelling with mobility equipment. This will ensure you arrive for your crossing in good time.

Special assistance

If you need assistance in getting on or off a ferry or boat, or whilst onboard, then you should contact the provider in advance.

Brittany Ferries

Lifts are available to use when leaving the vehicle decks and while moving around the ship. If you need to be parked close to a lift, it is essential that you inform the operator when making your booking and again at ticket check-in. Parking spaces close to the lifts are allocated to passengers with a disability on a first-come/ first-served basis, at the time of booking.

Accessibility at ports and on ships does vary. If you require additional assistance getting onboard or around the ship, you should inform Brittany Ferries at least 48 hours in advance.

If you or a member of your travelling party has a hearing impairment, visit the Information Desk onboard who will ensure you receive important messages made over the onboard speaker system.

If you would like further advice, contact 0330 159 7000, or email customer.feedback@brittanyferries.com.

Travelling with mobility equipment

It is worthwhile checking with individual ferry providers about wheelchair access and stowage of mobility equipment.

Brittany Ferries

If you need to bring equipment, such as a wheelchair, mobility scooter or oxygen, you should inform Brittany Ferries at the time of booking. A limited number of wheelchairs are available in the port and on the ship for emergency use.

Wheelchair-accessible cabins can be booked (subject to availability).

If you are travelling with a registered assistance dog, you must notify Brittany Ferries at the time of booking. The dog must comply with the guidelines for taking your pet abroad. You must carry proof that your animal is an assistance dog.
